Campaign Overview

The Covington Business Council (CBC) is a regional nonprofit chamber of commerce dedicated to supporting economic growth and fostering connections within the Northern Kentucky business community. In 2023, the organization’s website was outdated, difficult to navigate, and failed to reflect its growing role as a hub for business networking and resources.

I led the strategy, content organization, and design direction for the website’s redesign to create a modern, user-friendly platform that better served members and elevated the Council’s online presence.

The Challenge

CBC’s previous website suffered from several key issues:

  • Cluttered navigation and outdated structure made it hard for members and potential partners to find information.
  • Event listings and membership information were buried or inconsistently presented.
  • The site was not fully optimized for mobile use, creating friction for busy professionals accessing on the go.
  • The design no longer reflected CBC’s evolving brand identity and mission.
  • When I originally applied to the role, it was very hard to tell what the CBC actually DID due to lack of information on the page. I would have to assume that as someone wanting to join the organization that they had this problem as well.
  • As an employee, the website was very clunky; I was asked to update pages that weren't on the page - it was not at all user friendly. When I started, I was under the impression that the person who was in the job before me was afraid to touch the website as well, so it had not been updated for at least a year when I started.

The goal was to build a streamlined, professional website that would:

  • Clearly communicate CBC’s value proposition.
  • Make it easy for members and prospective members to find information and get involved.
  • Support the organization’s event-driven calendar and networking opportunities.
  • Be easy to maintain by staff after launch.

Strategy & Approach

The redesign focused on clarity, usability, and brand alignment, with these core strategies:

  • Information Architecture Overhaul
Restructured the site’s navigation to make membership benefits, events, and resources easily accessible. Simplified top-level menus and created clear pathways for joining, attending events, and contacting the organization.
  • Content Refresh
Updated and rewrote copy across the site to ensure a consistent, professional tone that reflected CBC’s mission. Condensed overly long pages and highlighted key calls to action.
  • Modern, Professional Design
Chose a clean layout with ample white space, updated brand colors, and easy-to-scan content blocks to appeal to business professionals.
  • Event & Membership Integration
Ensured event listings and membership information were front and center, driving engagement and conversions. Embedded Growthzone items (membership, events, etc.) for a seamless transition of the software.
  • Responsive & Accessible
Designed for mobile responsiveness and ease of use across devices, recognizing that many users would access the site on the go.

Design & Content Highlights

  • Homepage: Professional hero banner highlighting CBC’s mission, upcoming events, and clear pathways to “Join” and “Attend.”

  • Events Page: Centralized, easy-to-navigate event calendar with prominent registration links.

  • Membership Page: Clearly structured benefits, pricing tiers, and calls-to-action.

  • Resources & News: Space for business updates, press, and member features.

  • Contact Page: Clean, simplified form and location info to improve inquiries.

Impact & Results

The redesigned site gave CBC a modern digital presence that better represented its mission and value to the business community.

Key outcomes:

  • Improved usability for both members and prospective members.
  • Increased visibility of events and streamlined registration processes.
  • More intuitive navigation structure, reducing friction for users.
  • Strengthened brand identity and credibility in the regional business landscape.

Even after my departure, the website continues to serve as the organization’s primary digital hub, demonstrating the sustainability and clarity of the design.
